Why is that?

• Well, one of the primary reasons is to protect our users from spam. Many systems today are plagued by spam, including Craig's List. Spammers are less likely to create spam in the first place if they must create an account. Their accounts can also be terminated once they're discovered.
• Another significnt reason is that this site is intended to support ongoing engagement between real people -- not fly-by-night brief interactions.
• It is also important for us to be able to keep track of aggregate statistics about the number of users of the system, what people are selling and looking for. (Don't worry, we do not keep any personal information except what you enter, and we will never use it except to display it to other members of the site who may want to buy from or sell farm products to you.)
